S.O.S. We Need Help!

Same Old Spartans; this is a phrase that Spartans fans better get used to over the next week. After a great 2008 campaign, the Spartans have now started what was to be a promising season 1-3. Saturday’s loss to Wisconsin seems to prove that the 2008 season was an aberration, and the Spartans of old are back.
Sure, this team is probably more talented than some of the recent MSU teams. Yes, recruiting is better. And, I understand, this team is relatively young. But, so are many other teams, and they’re still winning.
The Spartans’ secondary still looks like a squad that would be defending passes during the Bobby Williams or John L. Smith era. Plain and simple: they stink. Notre Dame and Central Michigan all had no problems airing the ball out against the Spartans, and Wisconsin torched the secondary on Saturday.
The offensive side of the ball isn’t much better. Kirk Cousins threw some poor passes on Saturday, and when the QB shuffle circus brought Nichols on the field, he turned the ball over as well.
The bottom line after another embarrassing Saturday for the Spartans is that they are 1-3. Their only win comes against a division 1-AA team, and they’ve lost to a MAC team. They are now 0-1 in the Big Ten, and Michigan comes to town next week. MSU fans will need to pray for a miracle if they want their team to make any noise in the Big Ten this year.
