Another Spartan Great is Honored

The crowd roared with intensity…

Coach Izzo’s legs moved forward and back with nervousness. Everyone on the floor looked up in awe, and the 2000 Big Ten Player of the Year shook his head in disbelief as his #42 jersey rose to the rafters of the Breslin Center Saturday night. The students cheered wildly as Peterson walked out of the Spartans’ tunnel with his family in tow, swinging Morris Peterson posters rapidly in the air over their heads. Although this writer was stuck sitting in the very last row of section 231, I still joined my friends in yelling as loud as I could; hoping that in some way, “Mo” could hear me. I think he heard everyone.

“What’s up Spartans?”

That was all Mo Pete had to yell and the Breslin Center went crazy.

Dantonio Welcomes Four Final Recruits This Weekend

Michigan State head football coach, Mark Dantonio, will welcome what could be his last four football recruits to the campus of Michigan State University this weekend. These recruits will visit on the heels of this week’s announcement that Dantonio signed Orchard Lake St. Mary’s star, Dion Sims. Sims, a 6-foot-5, 230 pound tight end, is also a basketball recruit for Coach Tom Izzo. Sims is expected to play football in the fall, and upon completion of the season (or a bowl) join the basketball team.

The four new recruits this weekend include:

6-foot-6, 220-pound defensive end, Michael Buchanan, from Illinois. Buchanan is considered a four-star prospect and ranked the #15 tight-end by Rivals.com.

Also, 6-foot-3, 230-pound three-star prospect Bernardo Nunez from New Jersey.

Lucas Earns National Attention…

Kalin Lucas three ball

During a week in which top ranked teams such as Connecticut tipped off against West Virginia; Duke sneaked out a win against Florida State; and Louisville outlasted Villanova by a measly point; Kalin Lucas stood above all to take home last week’s ESPN.com National Player of the Week honor.

SOS

Same Old Spartans. Blessed with athleticism, top-notch recruits and one of the nation’s highest-regarded coaches, MSU, as usual, took on more than they can chew. The Spartans failed to prove themselves, yet again, in the national spotlight against a team that is clearly one, if not two or three, steps ahead of them.

The SOS perception, that in past years garnered national attention of the football program, has now perceived itself to hoops too. Although they are competitive, have the tools and the stage to do it on, looks in the mirror as the SOS.
